Few would ever argue against the many benefits of a more active lifestyle, and our unique Michael T. Sharratt Program for Active Living offers residents individualized opportunities to be more active.
Why Choose Us
Family and community are the heart of Village Life; nothing makes us prouder than when we hear our team members speak of residents as a neighbourhood full of grandparents.
The intentional Village design and the comfortable feel of our neighbourhoods and Main Street imparts a feeling of small-town connectedness, and that grows stronger when we look at the relationships at the heart of Village Life. Quality of care and quality of life are both enhanced upon a foundation of authentic relationships among all care partners, and this is what we strive for in every connection. Whether it's in our approach to supporting people living with dementia, our enthusiasm for active lifestyles or our overall reverence for the Wisdom of the Elder, our philosophy of care goes well beyond person-centeredness.
Focused on the well-being in every changing moment of every person living with dementia, our LIVING in My Today dementia care philosophy stands alone as a leading approach to care and support.
The immense wisdom held in the life experiences of our elders is something we are eager to learn from. When we honour, cherish and highlight this great resource, we restore our elders to a place of reverence in our society.
A true, restaurant-like experience awaits guests of The Ruby, a space within five of our Villages that welcomes residents, loved ones and neighbours alike to enjoy a fine meal out within the Village walls. Located high in the retirement towers, the views are as spectacular as the food within these hidden gems.
There are few simple pleasures more rewarding than a visit to a comfortable Spa. Within four Schlegel Villages, partners who own and operate The Riverstone Spa and Salon add much to Village life, and residents and guests take full advantage of the opportunity to treat themselves.
The heartbeat of community is often heard on Main Street, where connections among neighbours and friends are made in places like the Café, Library, Pub or Town Hall. The pulse of Village Life is in our relationships.
To provide holistic health care in a home environment, located within an internal neighbourhood design that promotes a caring community, with emphasis on optimal health and life purpose for each Resident.
At Schlegel Villages, we believe that we all have a part to play in making our world a better place. It Takes a Village to Care and we seek to serve our global community in a variety of meaningful ways.
Schlegel Villages partners with the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) to drive research and innovation to benefit older adults in our Villages and beyond. The RIA’s mission is to enhance the quality of life and care of older adults through partnerships in research, education and practice, and we're proud to work alongside such a wonderful team there.
RIA explores the aging process across various theme areas, such as:
- Brain Health;
- Heart Health;
- Nutrition;
- Training and Education;
- Technology for Independent Living.
The RIA uses the research findings to create or improve programs, policies, education, and training. The learnings are then shared, resulting in better care and enhanced quality of life for older adults around the world
The RIA is a charitable foundation that was founded by the Schlegel family in 2005 in collaboration with the University of Waterloo and Conestoga College.
