The team members and leaders at the heart of Village life are the keepers of the Schlegel Villages culture; they live our values in the service of residents and they drive the organization’s mission forward every day.

We are a family organization and that family extends to each of our dedicated team members. In a competitive health care world, we seek not only those with the best of skill, but also those whose heart and spirit align with the values that define us.
At Schlegel Villages, we aspire to provide all members of our communities, including team members, with a life-enriching experience. Family-owned and operated, we take our mission seriously: “to provide holistic health care in a home environment, located within an internal neighbourhood design that promotes a caring community with emphasis on optimal health and life purpose for each resident”.
Our team members are passionate about providing the highest quality of service to our residents; they have the right attitude and they view their role not just as a job, but a calling.
We want to hire the best people, provide the best training and education, and support them with the best leadership. Our commitment to these objectives creates a culture and environment of positive engagement on our journey to change the way care and support is offered for those who need it most.
Our team is made up of family, with each member offering unique abilities, beliefs, strengths and traditions, and this diversity is celebrated and honoured in every Village. It is important that within our team culture, each individual is able to thrive in the quest for ongoing growth, all in the collective spirit of full-Village support.
At Schlegel Villages, growth opportunities abound, and as we expand, we strive to develop eight out of every 10 new leaders from within. Ongoing education is encouraged and supported, and hard work is certainly recognized. Our CONNECT The Dots Customer Service philosophy guides our approach to care, and the depth of our relationships defines the greatest aspects of Village Life.
Personal Support Workers are key members of the Village team, caring for others with kindness, skill and compassion, always ensuring our residents feel comfortable and well-supported. A PSW's day often follows an established routine, but each day may look a little different. This offers team members the structure of a shift routine outlining the flow of the day, but also offers plenty of variety from shift to shift. The relationship-centred direct care our PSWs offer is the core of Village Life.
Our Food Services Aides (FSA), take tremendous pride in providing a pleasant meal experience for seniors and are key members of our Village and Food Services teams.
Our FSAs work in both Long-Term Care (LTC) and our Retirement neighbourhoods and their job responsibilities differ depending on which area of the Village they work. Note that Food Service workers in Retirement are required to have a current Safe Food Handlers Certificate and their Smart Serve Certification, while those in LTC must have a Food Service Worker Diploma or equivalent education.
Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) provide exceptional professional nursing care while fostering deep and meaningful relationships with residents, their families and the Village team. As critical bridges to the delivery of holistic care, they support and provide resident-centred nursing assistance with a focus on flexible living and life quality for the people we are proud to serve. There are many opportunities for growth for every RPN, and many of our Village leaders began their time with us in this capacity.
We welcome volunteers in our Villages and have a wide range of opportunities for you to make a difference in the lives of our residents. Discover the joy and fulfillment of volunteering with seniors.
We accept students from High Schools, Colleges, and Universities in a variety of support roles in our Villages.
Natalee chose to pursue a career as a caregiver as a way of “giving back,” she says. She reflects upon a different point in time when her grandfather’s health was failing back in Jamaica, and her family didn’t understand then how best to support him. She is a recipient of the SUCCESS Award at The Village of Humber Heights.
We are proud to have people from all around the world living and working with us.
